The Uses and Abuses of Television :

Television, a widely used medium of mass communication,is a source of knowledge, pleasure and information .

For example,films, dramas, songs, dances, comedies, national and commercial programmes, etc. are telecast on it. Some of them beautify our feelings and open our inner-eye.

Besides, the government uses it to make people conscious of many important things. Thus, television provides the viewers with everyday's news, educational and recreational facilities. But commercial programmes broadcast by foreign satellite TVs do harm to our youngsters by spoiling their values, traditions and religious beliefs. In recent times, it has more and more baneful effect on young people of our country. There are also other bad effects.

Sometimes, some of Tv programmers lead the children more to recreation than to education. Youngsters begin to ignore their own culture and accept the western culture. As we cannot stop the inflow of other cultures, we should adopt the good sides of the cultures and at the same time emphasize our own deep-rooted values.
